Course Description

Program Description Learn media for corporate communications and entertainment. In Media Fundamentals, students learn to use audio, video and image capture, and the tools, techniques and skills needed to manipulate these assets for information and communications technology and entertainment media. You will build a portfolio that demonstrates your creativity and technical know-how, as you explore educational paths leading to careers in photography, video production, web design, interactive media, journalism and broadcasting. This program allows students to learn technical and creative forms of media and expand their creative thinking, computer skills and knowledge of a variety of digital technologies. Students will study a wide range of subjects including media communication; current affairs; social media techniques; video capture and editing; web design; audio capture; digital photography; and creative design. Students will learn audio, visual and written communication skills and the expression of ideas. A variety of media techniques are implemented in the curriculum including media and print communications, photography, video, web and social media. Students will also develop presentation skills; learn how to conduct basic media research; and develop an education and career plan. Guest lecturers and field trips provide practical learning experiences. The program enables students to explore their strengths and interests in research-related careers while developing knowledge and portfolio materials to enhance their opportunity to meet the requirements for further study at college or university in industries including: Advertising. Broadcast, print and online journalism. Interactive media. Music business administration. Photography. Public relations. Video production. Web design. Career options: Graduates of this program may pursue further studies in other programs in the School of Media, Art and Design. With further educational experience, graduates could pursue careers in the following fields: Advertising Art Production Audio and video recording Broadcasting Concert production and promotion Post-production editing Film and video production Graphic design/illustration Journalism Public relations Rights administration and industry trade organizations Social media specialist Various roles at major and independent record labels Web content coordinator Web designer
